How I got started: I grew up with my first passion, team roping. After a spell in the reined cow horse industry I started cutting when I got the job at Black Rock Ranch. I’ve never worked for a cutting horse trainer but learned from older horses that Marshall Chesrown purchased. We learned together.
Biggest mistake I’ve made in cutting: Trying to change my style. I think it’s great to learn from people but at the end of the day you have to go with what feels good to you.
Biggest myth about cutting: How hard it is to put that perfect run together. It looks so simple when it happens but there is so much preparation into that moment that people don’t realize.
Favorite quote: “Show me what your horse CAN do and stop showing me what it CAN’T do.” – Gary Gonsalves
Most memorable moment in cutting: Making the NCHA Futurity Finals for the first time with my Mom, Dad and brother there. Pretty awesome feeling.
Training philosophy: Less is more and consistency is magic.
