Preview: Colt Starting And Establishing The Stop As Soon As Possible With Wes Ashlock

Wes Ashlock gives you great insight to his very successful 2 year old program. He goes into great detail about his groundwork program and why it’s so important to establish the stop on the lunge line as soon as possible.

Part 1
Wes starts a 2 year old filly and he shows you how and why he gets a colt to stop on the lunge line as a soon as possible. He also explains how he keeps a horse's focus on him and why it's so important to get these fundamentals on any young horse that is to go on and be successful in any western discipline.
Part 2
"A colt isn't broke until you get control of his feet," Wes says. He learnt this from his father in-law and he demonstrates how to teach a horse to lead with his feet and the key is the timing of your release. He also shows you how he prepares a horse by using a lariat to accept the cinch and saddle.
Part 3
Wes refines his lunge line exercises and demonstrates why he focuses on the body part of the horse that is closest to him to help get the correct bend he wants on the circle.
Part 4
Wes puts the first ride on this filly, explaining why he gets the person on the ground to do the verbal commands for the filly to stop. He also shows you where to place your hands when asking for the rein stop.
