Gary Bellenfant is a veteran of cutting. He’s an NCHA Open Futurity Champion and is still going strong in the show pen after five decades in the industry. In this two-part interview, Gary shares his insights about how the sport has changed, gives tips on training and recounts stories from the good old days with legendary trainer and good friend Buster Welch.

How I got started: I was training reined cow horses, and snaffle bitters. The cutting was really popular in the mid-70s and I ended up getting enthralled with it and I got a situation where I could start showing and it’s just grown since then.
