Michael Townsend and Regan Plendl Tie for First In 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur Final

Michael Townsend and Regan Plendl tied for first place in the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Amateur final in Fort Worth.

Both competitors scored a 217, Michael aboard Faith In My Kat, while Regan rode MK Kenli.

It was a sweet return to showing for Michael, who had a 10 year hiatus from competing.

He and the horse were a strong team, as the pair placed second in the Unlimited Amateur Final later that day. Michael’s winnings for the day were just under $16,000. He told CHTO’s Simone Cobb that much of success was due to his long-time trainer Tommy Marvin.

Meanwhile Regan, at just 16 years of age, has now won more than $90,000 in prize money following the Amateur title win. Regan, who comes from Kingsley, Ia, also competed against her twin sister in the final.

Interestingly, both horses were sired by Smooth As A Cat.

Hannah Gamble came second with a 215.5 on Peptos Stylish Foxy and Parke Greeson placed third riding Playin Monty marking 214.5.


Ken Sitton Takes Out The 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Ltd Non-Pro Classic

Ken Sitton made good on his very first final in the Will Rogers Coliseum when he won the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Limited Non-Pro Classic final.

Ken dominated the field of 14 riders aboard Little Swiss Desire, marking a 218, some three and half points in front.

Ken spoke to CHTO about his win.

Lisa Taylor placed second on Scootin in Stilettos with 214.5 and Julie Sheedy, all the way from Australia along with Amanda Purdin Standish were equal third. They rode Sweetallic and Deluxe Checks to mark 213.


Morgan Cromer Wins 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Open Classic!

Californian cutters were celebrating last night after Morgan Cromer’s victory in the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes Open Classic final at Fort Worth, Tx.

Morgan rode Maid of Metal and marked a 223 after being second out in the first herd.

Overjoyed with her win, it was Morgan’s first major title in the famed Will Rogers Coliseum, where she picked up almost $65,000 for the win.

Maid of Metal, a 5-yr-old by Metallic Cat, is owned by Judy Siebel, (also from California) and has now won more than $100,000.

Morgan, who recently earned the nickname, California Chrome, had two other horses make it to the finals, Little Dirty Deeds and TF High Chex CD, with her total earnings for the night coming to approximately $82,000.

She told CHTO’s Simone Cobb she was climbing the fence with nerves when watching the rest of the competitors, especially when John Mitchell put in a strong performance 3rd from last on CR Tuff Lucy.

John Mitchell and CR Tuff Lucy placed second just behind Morgan with a 222.5, while James Payne came in third on Cherry Peppers, scoring 220.5.

In just three months this year, Morgan’s earnings have totaled around $180,000. She says she plans to continue that momentum.

It was a full field of 29 competitors, with total prize money just shy of $465,000. The winner pocketed an extra $25,000 thanks to sponsor Alvin Fults, who owns the sire Metallic Cat. Both final winners of the Super Stakes thus far have been by Metallic Cat.


Wes Ashlock Does a Double Take Winning His Second NCHA Super Stakes John Deere Classic Final

Wes Ashlock from took out the first final of the 2016 NCHA Super Stakes with a convincing win in the John Deere Classic at Fort Worth.

Wes rode Metallics Star and marked a 221, two and half points in front of second place to take home $4,108 in prize money. The win takes Wes’s earning to date to more than $216,000.

Metallics Star was owned by John and Jana Thacker. The horse has now won more than $50,000.

It’s a double take for Wes, who won the very same event just two years ago on Amafoxy Cat (also owned by the Thackers). He spoke with CHTO’s Simone Cobb about his win.

Todd Gann placed second on Hevvy Metal, with an 218.5, just a half point in front of third place getter, Andrew Coates aboard Miss Martini Boon.
