It was a satisfied Steven Steve Schlesinger who took out the 2017 NCHA $5,000 Novice World Championship aboard Check Counter in Fort Worth. Steve held off Mike Wood in the finals to win the title on the horse he took to the Futurity final four years ago. Steven told CHTO’s Simone Cobb he was very grateful to his family for supporting his bid for the Worlds over the past year.
With just $300 between the top three competitors, Michelle Barnes put on a timely show for the judges to take out the buckle in the $5,000 Novice/Non Pro division of the 2015 NCHA World Finals.
Michelle rode Timely Addition to seal the deal with an impressive 227 in the final go at the Watt Arena, Fort Worth. Michelle also won the average at the finals.
Michelle is a client of Arizona trainer Mike Woods, who had 16 horses make it to the World Finals this year.
Timely Addition is a One Time Pepto gelding out of Flo Little Lena. Michelle won more than $30,000 in earnings this year.
She spoke to CHTO’s Simone Cobb and said it’s the first time she’s hauled for a world title. Laughing, she added, “it would probably be my last”.
