At the age of 14 Monty worked for Yancy James who was great friends with Lance Harrel who got him introduced to the sport of cutting. From there Monty worked for Salvador Cabral in Texas for one and half years. It was at the NCHA Futurity when Monty was 18 he asked Allan Crouch for a job and Mr Allan said he wasn’t hiring at the moment but told Monty to go watch the Futurity and see who impresses you the most showing horses, then go ask them for a job! It was there that Monty saw Tim Smith score a 218 and loved the way Tim’s horses worked and he asked Tim for a job. That was the day Monty’s life changed! He worked for a year and a half with Tim and now Monty and his wife Tessa operate an extremely successful training operation out of Triple Crown Equestrian Center in Lincoln, CA, owned by Steve and Stacy Morgan.
