Phil Rapp: Cutting Academy Clinic

Phil works with another 15 participants at the Waco Bend Cutting Academy held in Fort Smith, AK. He has them work 2 fresh cows out of the herd and focuses specifically on:

* Getting stopped at both ends of the arena
* How to get draw through the middle of the turn (Part 1 video)
* Have patience and wait on the cow
* Don’t lean with your shoulders

Part 1
Phil focuses on getting stopped and explains how to get draw through the middle of the turn when a horse is pushing on you and turning too early.
Part 2
Phil concentrates on stepping forward in your cuts and pushing on the horn. He also makes sure that you stop straight by using two hands
Part 3
Having patience and waiting on a cow is very important and hard to do because sometimes we want to create too much action, so Phil works on this with some participants and makes sure they get all the way across a cow.
Part 4
Phil makes sure that once you get stopped, you still have to pull the nose to help the horse find the cow and stay in time with it.
