  • Jonathan Rogers: Taking Riders from Flag to Cows

Jonathan Rogers continues to build on the principles he taught his clients in their lessons on the flag. In these three videos, he explains a range of tactics to create the best working environment for cow, horse and rider. Firstly, Jonathan talks about the placement of the herd and how this helps set up a good run. In the second video he encourages his amateur rider, Cristy Erickson to look at the whole picture and be open-minded before choosing a cow, especially a re-run cow. Jonathan says if you wait a moment and see what happens, the cow that wants to be cut will show itself. Finally in the third video, Jonathan advises Wayne Erickson how to center himself in the saddle to help stop his legs gripping and sending the wrong message to his horse.

How I got started: I used to trade horses and when I was 21, I saw a nice horse in a pasture. So I called in to see if it was for sale at Tim Bowens. It was a cutting horse. It felt great, and that horse would help me learn.
