Preview: How To Teach A Horse To Control The Cow With Faron Hightower

This great four part series gives you a true understanding about why you need to be able to break your horse free from the cow so he is comfortable to go stop the cow and control it. Faron works a couple of three year olds in a snaffle to show you how he teaches a horse about the cow and then he works his four year olds to help you see the end result of his training.

Categories: Advanced, Training.
Part 1
Faron works a three year Woody stud and explains why it's important to have a horse be free in the shoulders and get comfortable being outside a cow and learn how to control it. The secret to this exercise is always bringing your horse back to the middle of the cow once you have backed him or broken him loose from the cow.
Part 2
Faron demonstrates how he breaks a horse loose from the cow as it is standing still so he can get comfortable travelling out there. He also explains the importance of helping the horse back without hurrying the turn.
Part 3
Faron works a four year old that has always had a great thought process on a cow but had to understand how to find the middle of the cow. He organizes his hind feet through the middle of the turn himself.
Part 4
Faron says this 4 year old never really understood much about the cow as a two year old and he had to show the horse how to drive a cow first before he could teach him how to control the cow. He also explains the benefits of not using turnback help to help teach the horse about controlling a cow.
