Dalton Vicar won his first major buckle, the 2016 Mercuria $2K Ltd Rider World Title in Fort Worth, putting him well on his way to a professional career.
Dalton rode Cat In White Nikes over the year of hauling to finish with more than $15,000 in winnings.
After working for Mike Wood, Dalton told CHTO’s Simone Cobb he now plans to go out on his own as a two year old trainer.

After a year long dual, Nevada’s Tom Long has taken out the $5,000 Novice Championship at the 2016 Mercuria World Titles in Fort Worth.
Tom and his horse, Hes Gotta Be Good, beat Gavin Jordan and CR Kitty Gotta Gun by just $46 to clinch the title on his last run. Tom, who scored a 219 and 218.5 in both go rounds, won a total of $34,557 over the year.
It’s a remarkable return to form for Tom, who told CHTO’s Simone Cobb, that his last world titles were in 1985 and ’86.
After a hard-fought year of competition, Grant Setnicka and Ichis My Choice won the 2016 Horse of the Year title by the narrowest of margins, one point!
It came down to a nail biter in the last go round of the Mercuria World Finals where Grant and his horse had to wait out a review before the decision came down in their favor.
The pair beat out Matt Miller and Amandas CD for the prestigious title.
Making the win even more noteworthy, Ichis My Choice is just a 4-year-old. The mare is owned by the Jaeggi Family as part of J Five Horse Ranch Mgmt Llc and has now won more than $300,000 in earnings.
Grant told CHTO’s Simone Cobb his win was immensely satisfying and that hauling for the title was an incredible learning experience.
