How I got started: I used to trade horses and when I was 21, I saw a nice horse in a pasture. So I called in to see if it was for sale at Tim Bowens. It was a cutting horse. It felt great, and that horse would help me learn. After four years of working as a machinist at $30/hr, I quit my job and went to work for David Stewart.

Biggest mistake I’ve made in cutting: Going too fast.

Biggest myth about cutting: That people think you have to be from Texas to win.

Favorite quote: “The outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man.” – Winston Churchill

Most memorable moment in cutting: Winning a round at the Coliseum in 2009 at the Super Stakes 4-yr-old, because I knew then I could do it.

Training philosophy: The simpler the better. Everything has to be cow related.
