Preview: Kenny Platt: Preparing Three Year Olds for Competition

Kenny began showing horses at the age of eight and attributes his early success as a trainer to Lloyd Cox and Matt Rava. He has won more than $765,000 dollars and has won the 2014 Idaho Futurity, NCHA Super Stakes Finalist and the 2014 Brazos Bash Futurity to name just a few of his wins. In these videos Kenny demonstrates how he puts his three year olds in a show situation to teach them to:
* Become more accountable for the cow
* Not to be concerned with backing and shaping
* Hold a line when a cow pushes on you
* What to do when a horse gets too flat
* Work on your cuts with one hand

Part 1
Kenny works two three year olds and demonstrates how he asks them to become more accountable and concerned about the cow. He also works a horse that is too bendy and leaves the shoulders behind so he works on getting her to work a little straighter to help her timing with the cow.
Part 2
Kenny works another couple of three year olds, with one that is cowy however he wants to see her be a little more responsive to him when he wants to help her without ruining her confidence of going with the cow.

How I got started: My neighbours were cutters on a smaller level when I was growing up and they with my mum helped me get into it. I worked for Matt Ravo for a little while in 2004 in Brenham Texas and then in 2007 I went out on my own when I moved to Ft Lupton.
