How I got started: My neighbours were cutters on a smaller level when I was growing up and they with my mum helped me get into it. I worked for Matt Ravo for a little while in 2004 in Brenham Texas and then in 2007 I went out on my own when I moved to Ft Lupton.
Biggest mistake I’ve made in cutting: Not having the confidence in the article I was producing or my horse training. I probably should have gone out and shown more because I held off, not thinking they were ready to show.
Biggest myth about cutting: That a good horse trains itself! And that the big cuttings like Fort Worth are tougher than a regular weekend cutting.
Favorite quote: “Keep it simple.”
Most memorable moment in cutting: Making the Futurity Finals and being 7th on Rubys Cd, but also my semi-final run was really good too in 2013.
Training philosophy: Keep it simple. It seems the guys that do the best keep it simple. I think horses understand it better when it’s kept simple.
