Heavy Metal looked anything but when the 3-yr-old stallion took out the 2015 NCHA Futurity in Australia with trainer Todd Graham.
Todd and Heavy Metal, sired by Metallic Cat and out of Reyk It In, scored a 148 to clinch victory and $75,000 in prize money. It was Todd’s 5th Futurity win.
Heavy Metal was the 3rd horse out in a final of 25 horses. His owners, Jodie Mearns and Chris Ware, both from Tamworth, NSW, had an agonizing wait to see if the coveted title was theirs.
Simone Cobb from Cutting Horse Training Online spoke to Jodie and Chris in Australia via Skype. They talked about what was going through their minds as they watched the winning run again during the interview.
Jodie began by sharing how it felt when they realized they had won.
Todd Graham totally dominated the 2015 NCHA Futurity, finaling all five of his open horses and also going on to win the Derby. He is Australia’s highest money earner in cutting (money won in Australia) with more than $1.8-million won.
