Jonathan gives his non-pro and amateur riders a lesson on the flag before they work cows. He does this so they can get comfortable and find their rhythm, without to much pressure. He lets the flag stay in front of the horse a little, allowing the horse to read the stop. Jonathan explains that you have to leave your hand down when you first start because this allows you to identify where the horse may be cheating.

How I got started: I used to trade horses and when I was 21, I saw a nice horse in a pasture. So I called in to see if it was for sale at Tim Bowens. It was a cutting horse. It felt great, and that horse would help me learn.
