Preview: Jason Clark: Three Year Olds on Collection

With Jason’s working cow horse background he defines and demonstrates why he desires collection, as he works 3 year olds. At this time of the year (June) his main objective is to build the horse’s confidence and to be aware of the horse’s thought process when working a cow. He explains why he moves the horse’s hip to help soften the cow and to create a better connection with the cow. All this is done whilst working slowly and no one turning back for him.

Part 1
Jason works on trying to slow this 3 year old down as she is fresh. He demonstrates how he keeps his horses light in his hands by using his feet. The second horse is a green 3 year old. Jason is not too concerned with the mechanics, he just wants the horse to be cautious with the cow.
Part 2
Jason likes to have all the braces out of the horse's body before he works them on a cow. He also reminds himself of these words, "first half of the turn is the horses, the second half is yours." G.Bellenfant Jason lets this horse cheat a little because he wants to see the horse be smarter about the cow and to see if the horse has learned anything in each training session.

Trainers in this Video

How I got started: I grew up in California. Dad was a trapper who had a 3,500 mile radius area that he controlled. In that circular region, there were multiple cow horse trainers, lots of legends such as Greg Ward, Bobby Ingersoll, also the best cutter, Leon Harrell.
