Alisha Southworth grew up in Ohio on a farm where horses have always been a part of her life. She started cutting in the 90’s and fell in love with it.
After her son Conner took an interest in cutting in 2017, she found herself back on a cutting horse. It was then that they decided to move to the Cutting Horse Capital of the World, Weatherford, Texas.
“We moved here because of cutting and our love for Texas,” Southworth said. “My husband had lived here before so we have always loved Texas.”
Southworth currently has a six year old Metallic Cat mare, Metallic Maria Ray that she has been showing under the guidance of Randy Chartier.
“It’s just awesome. We get to go ride with Randy everyday and he is great! He’s very patient and helps us a lot when it comes to getting ready to show,” said Southworth.
“The summer show is always my favorite. I love sitting there and watching the cattle, and then seeing which ones the open guys cut. I could sit there all day!”
One of the things Southworth also enjoys is watching Conner compete and be involved in the youth.
“He had a lot of fun this year during the Youth Week. He was able to make new friends that were his age and enjoy the show even more,” she said.
She and her husband Trent credit Conner and his interest in horses for leading them back to the cutting horses. They just purchased her son a 4 year old so that he can compete in aged events as well. Her husband still has a business that is based in Ohio, but she said, “We are loving our life in Texas”.
Why Alisha Uses CHTO: “I like watching ALL of the videos and seeing all the different trainers. What really got me interested was the Get Coached [feature] where they were coaching someone through a run and were offering a lot pointers that you don’t even think about. It’s awesome!”
