Phillip Ralls’ love for reined cow horse and showing began at the young age of 8-years-old when he showed his first bridle horse. From that moment forward, Ralls focused on improving himself and his horses. At the age of 36, Ralls became the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s fifteenth million dollar rider.
“You get into a mindset of where you’re just constantly moving forward and trying to improve. Trying to make your horses better each and every year,” stated Ralls.
Growing up on the west coast, Ralls was privileged to spend ample time with legendary horsemen, who helped progress his horsemanship skills at an advanced pace. In addition to is his father, NRCHA Hall of Fame rider Ron Ralls, another mentor for Ralls is Harold Farren. After spending eight years at Monty and Pat Roberts’ Flags Up Farm, Farren’s guidance and encouragement lead to Ralls opening his own training facility.
Ralls has trained many special horses throughout his career, including Dom Dualuise (Dual Rey x Smart Little XX x Smart Little Lena) and One Fine Vintage (One Time Pepeto x Shiners Siena x Shining Spark). His most recent partner is multiple NRCHA champion and reined cow horse sire Call Me Mitch (Metallic Cat x Miss Hickory Hill x Doc’s Hickory).
“I had a connection to Call Me Mitch as a yearling. He’s been a special horse his whole career,” said Ralls.
In addition to being an accomplished horseman and NRCHA Million Dollar Rider, Ralls’ list of accomplishments includes three NRCHA World’s Greatest Horseman reserve champion titles.
The California horseman crossed the seven-figure milestone at the 2018 National Stock Horse Association Pre-Futurity, held in August, at the South Point Equestrian Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. Ralls resides on the Central coast of California, in Paso Robles, with his wife, Teresa, and their two children, Josey and Jackson.
