How I got started: I grew up riding horses my whole life. I worked for a lot of reining horse trainers and as time went on I started doing reined cow horses. I went to work for Teddy Robinson as well as many of the top cow/horse guys in the industry and they all helped me along the way. I started training for myself at the age of 23.
Biggest mistake I’ve made in training horses: If I was to do it all over again, I think I would go try to learn a little bit more about cutting at an earlier stage of my training career.
Biggest myth about cutting: For those on the outside looking in, just because I’m a million-dollar rider doesn’t mean that I’m literally sitting on $1 million.
Favorite quote: “The stars are always within reach but the better you prepare yourself the closer those stars will be.”
Most memorable moment in performance horses: When I won the Futurity on CD Diamond! I had four horses in the final and the first two were just okay. When I got done showing CD Diamond, I looked at Kristin and said “Where did that put me?” She said I just needed to show my next horse. After I got done showing, I realized that I had won it. She was right at the time, I didn’t need to think about what my score was, I just needed to think about showing my next horse and doing a good job for everybody on the team.
Training Philosophy: To always better myself. The thing that I truly love is riding a good horse and one that is willing to take the training to help bring out the best in both of us.
