In 2007, Jed Lawrence attended a cow horse sale in Indiana. He had grown up on a cattle ranch and thought reined cow horses looked fun. He went to work for Shawn Flarida, focusing on the reining event. Lawrence now has his own training operation in Nancy, KY and he uses Cutting Horse Training Online to improve his herd work.
Lawrence’s best memory in the sport was the 2020 NRCHA Derby in Arizona where he took 8th in Level 1 after getting a 219 down the fence aboard a very special horse named Blu Boon Shining.
Lawrence said this horse helped him grow as a trainer and experience success by making finals at major aged events. The pair did well at the Snaffle Bit Futurity and the NRCHA Derby. Lawrence has trained that horse since it was a two year old and has taken it to the Futurity, the Derby and now hopes to compete on him in the World’s Greatest Horseman.
Lawrence plans to show more in the Limited Aged Events and all the other major shows. His goal is to keep working hard, getting better and winning some titles at the bigger shows.
Why Jed Uses CHTO:
“I don’t think there is a better way to get out there and see what the best in the industry is doing. And just make yourself a little better…For me, it’s really showed me how to implement part of the training that ties everything together…I watch the videos 3-4 times a week and I might watch the same video twice or more. If I am having a problem I’ll just thumb through [the website] and see what’s there. And see if what [the trainers] are saying and see if it can’t help me out.”
