Preview: Gary/Grant Clinic. Flag Position & Slowing Down Horses

Gary Gonsalves and Grant Setnicka explain their philosophy on the training of a cutting horse. In part one, Grant explains how to slow down a hot horse on the flag. In part two, Gary explains where you should be positioned with your horse on the flag.

Part 1
Gary and Grant explain their approach to cutting and how to stop cattle. Grant works a hot horse and demonstrates how he works on the brain of the horse by slowing it all down to a walk. He also explains that the butt of the horse is up into the flag too much causing it to be too flat and anxious.
Part 2
Gary explains where your position should be relative to the flag and that it's your responsibility as a rider to keep the horse even with the flag.

Trainers in this Video

How I got started: Dad trained cow horses in the 70’s. After high school I worked for Bobby Ingersoll for four years. Biggest mistake I’ve made in cutting: Not going to work for a cutting horse trainer, it would have made the transition easier.
