Part 1Part 2

Michael Cooper: Three Year Olds on the Flag

Michael works more futurity prospects on the flag and focuses on particular minor issues they each have. Again, with each horse he makes sure they all begin each work with caution and he demonstrates how he uses his feet to help them soften.

Part 1
This 3 year old doesn't like leg or feet pressure and is not a strong horse, so Michael tries not to back him too much. He also wants to see this horse accelerate out of his turns a little better.
Part 2
Michael flags two horses in this video and talks about the benefits of tie-downs. The first horse he works is a little greener and pushes on the bridle, so Michael has to use his feet and hands a little more to get him to soften. The second horse Michael points out wants to lope out of the turn so he focuses on trying to get him to trot and turn flatter.

How I got started: My cousin was working for Kenneth Galyean, when I was 13 and we went and rode his cutting horses when he wasn’t home.
