How I got started: I did lots of youth showing around Michigan because my father, Randy Chartier, is a trainer. I didn’t touch horses for five years because I was into other sports such as football. When I was 20 I watched my brother RL final two horses at the Futurity when I worked for him at Julie Wrigley’s for two years. I then moved to Paul Hansma’s for six years.
Biggest mistake you’ve made in cutting: Not believing in myself enough and changing my program because of other people’s opinions.
Biggest myth about cutting: You don’t have to be born into the industry to be successful at it, just look at Michael Cooper.
Favorite quote: “To learn to succeed you must first learn to fail.” – Michael Jordan
Most memorable moment in cutting: Winning my first aged event title in 2013, the NCHA Limited Derby on Dmac Spoonbill.
Training Philosophy: Try to train every horse for what it is and train it to the best of its own personal ability.
