James likes to keep everything simple when he is tuning up his Amateur show horses for his clients. He talks about the importance of working an Amateur horse according to how the owner rides. He wants to make sure that his Amateur horses have the confidence and understanding to stop and turn around with the cow, even if its not technically correct all the time. James talks us through each horse’s strengths and weaknesses, which helps explain what he is doing, and why.

How I got started: I worked for Dick Piper for eight years as a reiner in 1996. When the Pipers switched to cutting because of Playgun I switched to training cutters as well. I leased stalls for a year at the Pipers and trained for the public.
