Part 1Part 2

Link Baumann: Hoof X-rays Explained

In this two part series, Wayne explains what the x-ray angles of the hoof capsule should look like and then compares them to a hoof capsule that has bad angles and are of concern to the soundness of a horse. He also shows us x-rays of a horse’s four feet and points out how they are all different and that they have to be shod or trimmed accordingly.

Part 1
Wayne explains the reference points of a healthy hoof capsule and then compares it to a hoof capsule with negative PA (Palmer's Angle). He explains how and why this can effect the heels, hamstrings and suspensory ligaments. He also demonstrates how all horses have four individual feet and must be shod or trimmed accordingly.
Part 2
This horse had suspensory issues and was shod without x-rays and the shoe that was put on to help him was actually going against the mechanics of the hoof. Wayne x-rayed the hoof capsule, saw what was going on and changed the angles to help the horse become sound.
