Preview: Ronnie Rice & Tarin Rice: Three Year Olds on Cattle

Last year’s Co – NCHA Futurity Champions Ronnie and Tarin Rice work some 3 year olds on tough cattle in large round arena and focus on allowing their horses to try and figure a few things out for themselves. Ronnie explains that his horses have to get used to seeing bad cattle because they will see them at a cutting, “They have to know where the cow is at all times! If they don’t, you’re in trouble.”

Part 1
Ronnie works a Woody Be Tuff 3 year old on bad cattle. He lets his young horses make mistakes because he wants to see if they can figure a few things out for themselves.
Part 2
Tarin works a Woody Be Tuff 3 year old, that we videoed last year as a 2 year old with Tarin. He is working in a big arena going round and when Tarin feels his horse get a little lost he shuts him down and goes straight back up into the cow.
Part 3
Ronnie works a 3 year old new to his program that's a little nervous around cattle! He walks her around whilst in the herd to try and break her feet free to help her relax. She is a very physical horse and wants to see her think a little more.
Part 4
Tarin works a Non-Pro Futurity prospect, that gets a little forward on the cow so Tarin pulls him back. Every time his horse gets a release from the cow, Tarin wants his horse to shut down.
Part 5
Ronnie works a Highbrow Cat filly that is a little hot and fresh, so he follows the cow for a while to help get her settled before he secures her to do no more than what the cow does.
