  • Aaron Wheatley: Starting Two Year Olds

Aaron Wheatley gives a great demonstration on how to build confidence in any 2 year old when working cows no matter their talent or disposition. He trains 3 different two year olds in different stages of being introduced to the cow. Aaron checks in with each horse and varies their dry work according to how they are feeling and thinking. In all three works, he consistently talks about holding the horse at the turn and shows how he achieves this on each horse whether on the cow or the flag.

How I got started: I went through Pony Club (like 4H) as a kid and then into western pleasure. I had a chance to ride a cutting horse and was hooked from then on. Biggest mistake I’ve made in cutting: Thinking it would get easier as time goes on.
