How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls! Mentoring The Next Generation

“[Art of the Cowgirl] has been a dream of mine for quite some time,” Tammy Pate, Art of the Cowgirl Founder, said. Tammy is pictured above.

Allie Dwyer wanted to be a better cutter. But when she was awarded a mentorship program with renowned trainer Lindy Burch, she discovered the art of being a cowgirl.

“It’s very humbling to work with someone like Lindy. There’s always something new to learn…That hunger to always get better is one thing I took from it and through Art of the Cowgirl you’re always learning…I hope I can even say that when I’m 65 and 75…And just the fellowship and camaraderie,” not only with Burch, Dwyer said, but others who opened their homes. “They let us come in and work and stay with them and eat with them and get to know their families.”

John Mitchell and Janie Wood – NCHA 2021 Futurity Champions!

A lifetime of hard work, passion and perseverance culminated at the NCHA Futurity Final for John Mitchell. He and Janie Wood rode into the history books scoring a 230 to take out the 2021 Open Championship.

Making the win even sweeter, Janie Wood, daughter of the accomplished Junie Wood was home bred by Glade Knight’s Slate River Ranch. It was a fitting tribute to the late mare.

Cara Brewer on Tagging collected the Reserve Champion title with a 227.5. She was followed by Austin Shepard aboard Wood She B Magic tying for third place with Adan Banuelos and Hottish Metal who marked 224.
