Preview: Morgan Cromer – How To Prepare A Show Horse On The Flag, The Same Day You Compete!

Working a horse on the flag the same day you compete is different to how you would work the flag on a regular training day at home. In this three, part series Morgan helps several people tune their horses, with the main focus being that the horse is ready mentally as soon as you drop your hand.

Part 1
Morgan tests the first horse staright away to see if the horse is thinking mentally about its job. The second horse in this video doesn't want to travel across to her right and cover the flag, so Morgan demonstrates how she uses the flag to correct it.
Part 2
Morgan shows clinic participants how to be more efficient with their hands and reins so you can work one handed to help get more draw. She also talks about not getting the hip up into the cow too much because it can make it too difficult for some horses to turn around.
Part 3
Learn how to fix a horse that is turning with his shoulder first and how to keep your horse on a straight line when working the flag.

How I got started: When I was 11 years old, I had some family friends Carlos and Kathy Fandino that owned some horses with Russ Westfall. They let me ride my first cutting horse (I used to ride hunter jumpers beforehand!). He was a Docs Oak gelding named Acorn Chex.
